Why Missions?
Gladeville missions is driven by two compelling teachings in Scripture. First, the great commission issued by Jesus himself in all four gospels, the two most widely recognized passages being Matthew 28:19-20, and John 20:21.
In Matthew Jesus clearly placed in the hands of his followers the task of spreading His gospel (teachings) throughout the world…
“Go ye, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
In the gospel of John, Jesus personalized this command, linking it to his own mission. He said…
“…as (just as) my Father has sent me, even so (in the same way) send I you.”
The second teaching is found in Acts 1:8. We consider this our missions strategy…
“…ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.”
Our ‘Jerusalem’ is our town and community, Gladeville. Our Judaea is our county. Our Samaria, is our state and nation. And our ‘uttermost parts of the earth’ are the other nations of the world. Because of this passage we direct our missions ministry in three dimensions: local, state/national, and international.
