Keep Your Family Safe Online
By the age of 18, 94% of boys and 63% of girls will have seen pornographic material on the Internet. Children and teenagers increasingly live in a world where the boundaries you've established for safety in your home are more and more difficult to maintain in the digital world. Their connection to the Internet is no longer limited to a computer; they can get "out" and strangers can get "in" through gaming systems, iPods, and cell phones. The average age for first exposure to Internet pornography is 11 years old.
We believe that protecting your household from these dangers is vital. We have researched the issue thoroughly to help you reinforce the digital boundaries in your home. We believe the best route for protection is to implement two systems which provide accountability and filtering.
Covenant Eyes is a non-profit organization which provides both of these services. The first is Accountability. When you setup Covenant Eyes accountability on your device, every user on that computer or smart phone will need to log in with a username and password to connect to the Internet. Once a week, an accountability report will be emailed to a person of your choosing with a detailed log of every website, chat room, and any other Internet activity taking place under that individual username. We believe this is a strong deterrent to looking at inappropriate content online, and also provides an excellent tool to guide healthy disucssions with your children regarding Internet content. It is also an excellent tool for adults to maintain accountability while online as well.
The second service is Filtering. Internet filtering used to be a challenge to implement and even a greater challenge to maintain. Covenant Eyes has taken a lot of the guess work out of Internet Filtering and provides a strong filter to complement their main accountability service.
Again, we highly recommend both of these services to implement protection for your family. Unfortunately, these two strong measures are still incomplete. We belive ongoing discussions and monitoring Internet usage is critical to keeping your family safe. We know this is not convenient and it is certainly not easy, but it is critical to protect your home.
We have partnered with Covenant Eyes to make these services more affordable to your family. In fact, it is our guess that the annual costs of keeping your family safe is comparable to one month of cable television/Internet service for most familites.
If you would like to implement these services in your home, you have two options:
- Visit the Covenant Eyes website and setup an account. They will provide you a free 30 day trial of both services. They have also agreed to offer the service at a discounted rate for families affiliated with our church. You can visit their website to get more details about the discounts for multiple users. For simplicity, we've listed examples of your annual costs should you choose this option:
Single User Annual Cost:
Accountability: $83.88/year, Accountability & Filtering: $101.88/year
Two Users - Annual Cost:
Accountability: $107.88/year, Accountability & Filtering: $143.88/year
Three Users - Annual Cost:
Accountability: $131.88/year, Accountability & Filtering: $185.88/year
Four Users - Annual Cost:
Accountability: $155.88/year, Accountability & Filtering: $227.88/year
*A four user account equates to less than $20 a month to keep your family of four safe online. - We also have a direct parnership with Covenant Eyes that allows you to sign-up through our church for a significant savings. For this option you would contact the church to setup your accounts and pay for one year in advance. The church would not receive your accountability report. Nor could we see any details about your account. We simply create the usernames for you under our global account with Covenant Eyes. For simplicity, we've listed examples of your annual costs should you choose this option:
