Spiritual Transformation… What’s That?
What’s the business of the church? We would know the answer to this question if we were talking about a school, or a hospital, or a bank. But what does a church exist to do?
At GBC we believe our business, the thing we exist to do, is to lead people to experience Spiritual Transformation. And we believe this happens as people enter a relevant, significant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and begin to aspire toward His character and purpose in their lives. We believe that God, Himself, when allowed to be present and active in our lives, enables us to be shaped into persons who exhibit the character and qualities of Jesus.
We believe this is what Jesus came to do. He said to his earliest followers: “Follow me, and I will make you…” Matthew 4:19. This is clearly what the leaders of the church had in mind, and encouraged early followers of Christ toward. Paul said: ”...don’t be shaped by the world, but be transformed… as your mind is renewed…” Romans 12:2
So how does this transformation occur? We believe there’s a pretty clear and simple path that leads to it happening. First, we believe that when a person begins to honor, accept and worship God, transformation begins. Second, we believe that as a person connects with God and other followers of Christ regularly and in significant ways, major character and values changes happen. And, finally, we believe that when a person begins to serve others in Christ’s name, they are changed as a result of reaching outside of themselves and giving themselves away.
So, we invite you to join us in our journey toward Spiritual Transformation. It will literally change your world… your destiny… and you.
